Blue Heron Dawn
Background story: Who hasn’t stopped in their tracks to watch a Blue Heron? To me it is one of the most majestic and beautiful water birds. I wanted to capture its majestic stance and some of the exquisite scenery of the island in a unique way.
The silk screen print making technique was the perfect choice to render the heron’s majestic silhouette— with its unique neck—with the colorful reflection of the sunrise on the marsh water.
Amelia Island: This island is blessed with several locations where you can find herons in their natural habitat. Spots open to the public that are great for bird watching include the Atlantic beachfront, Egan’s Creek Greenway, Omni Amelia Island Resort, Amelia River Golf Club, Amelia Island State Park, Fort Clinch State Park, and Spoonbill Pond on Big Talbot Island State Park.
Nature Facts: Widespread and familiar—though often called a crane—the Blue Heron is the largest heron in North America. It is often seen standing silently along inland rivers or lakeshores. The Blue Heron flies with its head hunched back onto its shoulders and slowly beating wings. Highly adaptable, it thrives around all kinds of waters.
